Ammonium Salts of Phosphatidic Acid

Type of Posting: Notice of Intent to Revise
Posting Date: 02–Mar–2020
Targeted Effective Date: 01–June–2021, Food Chemicals Codex Twelfth Edition, Second Supplement
Expert Committee: Food Ingredients Expert Committee

In accordance with section 8.01 of the 2015–2020 Rules and Procedures of the Council of Experts, this is to provide notice that the Food Ingredients Expert Committee intends to revise the Ammonium Salts of Phosphatidic Acid monograph in the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC).

Comments with supporting data were received that indicate that the use of USP Ammonium Salts of Phosphatidic Acid Reference Standard (RS) is not necessary for Identification of the food ingredient according to the existing monograph. The article in commerce is highly variable in composition and not likely to exhibit the same characteristics as the USP Reference Standard in all cases. The Expert Committee proposes to revise the Ammonium Salts of Phosphatidic Acid monograph to delete the requirement to use USP Ammonium Salts of Phosphatidic Acid RS.

USP Ammonium Salts of Phosphatidic Acid RS, associated with this monograph, is currently unavailable. USP does not intend to develop a replacement lot in anticipation of the proposed revision of this monograph.

It is anticipated that the proposed revision will be published among the Proposed Changes and Revisions in the June 2020 FCC Forum [Jun.–Sept. 2020] pursuant to section 8.01(b) of the Rules and Procedures. The comment period for this revision ends on September 30, 2020. In the absence of any adverse comments the proposed revision is scheduled to become effective on June 1, 2021.

Should you have any questions, please contact Kristie Laurvick, Senior Manager of Food Standards to the Food Ingredients Expert Committee (301–816–8356 or kxb@usp.org).
